Until recently LL ran a maillist for SL scripting. However, due to inappropriate posting to the Community Roundable maillist all unmoderated lists were closed.

Periapse Linden has kindly offered to resurrect and moderate the scripters list if there is sufficient interest.

Matthew, if LL fixed the BBC code here, do you think that more scripters would use this venue to discuss issues instead, or in addition to the email list? A lot of stuff happened on the email list that was of interest to the greater community.

Tricky one - apart from the BB code issue (which, I think, no one believes will ever get fixed), there are those who prefer passively getting e-mails to actively having to check forums, and also no payment on file accounts can't participate in the forums whereas they can participate in the maillist.

Email lists only help those that are on the list. Forums help anybody that cares to read them.

Well, email lists are archived too. They are not as easily searchable by any means though.

I would love to see BBCode properly reinstated here and think that many people would return, but, well, this JIRA was proposed by a Linden who has volunteered to moderate it, and is thus very likely to succeed if it gets votes. (It seems that all of the unmoderated LL mailing lists were shut down after some ridiculous behaviour by a few people on the community roundtable list.) A Scripters' List and no BBCode is better than no Scripters' List and no BBCode.

It's not as though this forum is easy to search. Too many terms are reject as too short, too common, or too long. The Advanced Search features aren't particularly advanced. I'd give a higher priority to improving the forum search than to enabling bbcode.

I'd most certainly be interested in resurrecting this mailing list. Sounds like a very viable resource.

Count me in.
I would much rather have posts coming into my gmail account where I can filter it and do intelligent searches on it. We could still post sample code back here as well as the library if we want non scripters to have access to it.
And my email client has a spell check too :)

so if I subscribe to this thread, will I find out how to subscribe to the list?
(please say yes, I've just done it)
