Does anyone know how to obtain the ip address of a sim? I am trying to set up a nifty .htacess file on my test server to redirect everyone to my live site, except me, and http requests from my sim.

To do this, I can write a rewrite command in my htacess file, however, I need the ip address of my sim write the exception rule...

anyone have experience with sim ip addresses?

You can do Help->About Second Life to get the name DNS name. From there, a ping will tell you the actual IP address.

From a script, you can do llGetSimulatorHostname which also returns the DNS name.

Note that sims don't always stay at the same IP address. They won't move without a reboot but they will move. Sometimes. Without warning.

nice! You rock!

After adding
RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} !^IP\.IP\.IP\.IP
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

it worked! thanks!!!

Are you saying you're running a sim yourself? On your own server? Do you have some info on that? I've been looking for something like that for a long time and never got a reply from LL when I mailed them about it..

Very interesting :)

Would I be able to "hook it up" to the regular SL grid? IE showing on the map, showing up in search, etc.?

Nope. It's a standalone testing type server. Like lets you upload stuff for testing to yer own server for free before trying it out on the Main Grid. Think Beta Grid but tiny...one sim in yer back pocket. LOL
