Is this possible?

Say I have some sort of device that could be remotely controlled over the internet. . .

Would it be possible to manipulate it somehow in RL, from SL? I know IM's could go to an email address. Is there anything else that can "get out" of SL that might be used as a "command channel" over the internet?

You can send and receive HTTP messages, so you can have scripts inside SL talk to scripts running on a web server. You can also receive XML-RPC messages, but AFAIK that's not been reliable lately.

Ah. Seems a little advanced for me. But at least I have a light to steer by. Thanks Ziggy.

You would be surprised what all could be remote controlled from SL. A year or two ago Wired Magazine had an article about something rather naughty along these lines that was done.
