Set object's group without owner being in that group

I was curious if anyone has found a way to automatically give an object to another avatar such that it can be rezzed on that group-owned parcel with auto-return enabled. i.e. the object's group needs to be set to the land's group, but without that avatar needing to be a member of the group at any point. Possible?

I assumed not. But I tried the following test anyway...

1) Visitor clicks box.
2) Box rezzed a prim. At this point the rezzed prim is set to the right group.
3) Visitor buys the rezzed prim (original, not a copy or contents) for L$0.
4) The prim now belongs to the visitor and remains rezzed. However, the group has now changed to the avatar's active group, so it'll be auto-returned after a few minutes.

Was worth a try!

BTW, something similar comes in useful if you sell in more malls than you have spare groups. Leave a prim in each booth you rent which rezzes anything you place in it's inventory. The rezzed objects will be set to the correct land group despite you having left that group long ago.

no can do, probably to prevent users from obtaining group privileges they are not entitled to (because they aren't in the group), or implicating a group one in not a member of in griefing or personal attacks. it always default to the av's active group (though that was a neat test, I hadn't thought of, =)

you can load multiple groups onto different prims and link them, but I don't think that will help you since they lose the individual groups on inventory take, and I'm not sure that it would be retained on buy, or even affect group land permissions (since the root is what is counted for those)
