Is the library dead?

I submitted a script to the library weeks ago and it isn't listed yet. Following the sticky instructions I did not try re-submitting 3 more times. I sent a private message to the librarian and never got a reply. I notice the last thing added to the library was in January. Should I just submit code suggestions for the library to this scripting tips forum?

Yup. The library seems to be dead indeed, so post here with some helpful flag in the title of the thread like LIBRARY: , and include keywords that are likely to show up in a search. That's what I was advised to do last Spring.

Nada dosen't check submissions over there frequently, and the new policy is just to move them here (leaving a 'moved' crossslink).... so if you're looking to get immediate exposure, just post here in the manner Rolig suggested

Gah. The library has been an invaluable resource for me. As we go into the future new people will need up-to-date scripts to use and learn from.

Thank you from me to everyone who has contributed.
/me hopes it gets resuscitated.

The wiki has been the new official spot for the library. Add it there and put a post here when you done it so people can take a look.

Seems to me we need a new librarian for the Tip Library now.

Nada Epoch has not been online since June 27th.

So who would volunteer to do this in the future?

Linden Labs will not accept a new librarian as the forum is at EOL for them. Even when we get a new forum I would suggest keeping everything in the wiki that Destiny was speaking of. It is not that difficult to add a script there. More importantly, you can also create a user page and link to even more scripts then what you have in the library. You can add your own tips that you find handy, such as Void's work with rotations.

I am setting mine up to help anyone that wants to use the latest version of Scite along with the updated lsl.api, global.properties, lsl.properties and an up to date abbreviations file. Along with the links for the various plugins. I just need to talk to Strife and see if he can find a home for the white space stripper. If he is not interested then I will probably set up a Google Code page for it.

It is a good visible spot and has a lot of traffic. I have over 20,000 hits on my 3D Radar page there. The only thing we really need to work on is creating a list of users with either scripts or tips on their user pages. Either add the list to the library page or to the main LSL portal page.

Somewhat OT, but would you mind, Jesse, expanding on the installation instructions for Scite on your page? I've copied the files and put everything where I think it's supposed to go, but I don't get lsl as a language option, so I guess I've missed something blindingly obvious.

Updating files, instructions this afternoon. I will send you a PM when I am done and acknowledge it here.

I keep forgetting to add links from the portal library to my tips functions and programs pages... thanks for the reminder.

Looking at the Wiki LSL Library, its going to get a complete mess in there.

There is a number of improvements that need to be made in there to make it more easier to find things, ie:

- Categories.
- Date of Submission.
- Date of any Updates.
- Separation of any 3rd party SL viewers that have their own LSL code tweaks.
- Ability to comment on the code, or link back to a forum post.

But the question is, what happens if people start submitting scripts that are buggy, or have lack of functionality, or near duplicates of other scripts?

No one was checking scripts before they were placed in the library here. If anyone saw a problem then a comment was made but we could not force them to change their script. There are discussion pages in the wiki's that can be used the same way. Plus we never really have had a problem with any of the wiki libraries so far, this is not the first.

comments can goo on the talk page, linking can already be done by the page creator, I do agree that some categorization would help, but considering we don't have that here either it's not a huge loss.

all scripts that are submitted to the wiki should be tested before posting (if LL breaks it later that's not the editors fault) and as you may have already noticed, there are already similar scripts in the library that do roughly the same functions (look at the xy-text variants).

for people making similar functionality, but code improvements, if the page it's on is NOT a user page, then simply add your version underneath on the same page, if it's on a user page, add it to the discussion for that page (most editors monitor their user pages and get e-mail when their talk pages update.)

When will the wiki.secondlife.com/wiki become at EOL for LL?
For days this message:
DOWNTIME ANNOUNCEMENT - Maintenance will be performed at 1AM Pacific Time on 2009-07-29 (tonight).
has been presented:(
Happy scripting:)

Yep, but see there is one other benefit, it is no problem to scrape the wiki library using a spider. Or at least a heck of a lot easier to do then it would be to try to scrape the forum library.
