Flying across the edge of the world

Hi All,

I'm sure I read this somewhere before, but can't find it on the Wiki or forums.

I'm trying to make an autonomous bot that can fly across the grid. I thought there was a height you can fly above, where you can fly across the edge of the world(ie open water, no sims) without getting stopped/bounced/auto-returned etc.

Anyone know what this height is, and what limitations there are? Is there a difference whether an avatar is sitting on it or not?

Thanks.

Nope. Cross a sim boundary into an undefined region and you are stopped at the boundary. Objects will be returned or deleted depending on some prim settings (see http://secondlife.com/badgeo/wakka.php?wakka=llSetStatus).

I too ache for objects to be able to pass between continents without being manually attached or taken and re-rezzed. :(

Really? Bummer. I was sure I read something about > 1500m or such being able to navigate anywhere? Maybe that was the height to avoid no script land or something?

There goes my autobot :(

I take it from your posts that you cannot give an object the ability to teleport?
It would be interesting if you could...maybe have an SL parcel delivery service! :-)

Anyway, at least the center and the north continents are linked by a few regions of ocean. Of course, that still leaves out the southern-most continent and all of the individual "island" sims.

It would be cool if all void regions were turned into ocean. Then you could sail across the open seas and come across strange, isolated islands. I suppose that it would use up computer resources, though, to have active regions of ocean instead of void. Still a fun thought.

You fly that high to avoid the obstacles people leave up. It is GENERALLY pretty clear above 768 m (the limit to 'llSetPos()', though you can get stuff above that manually...).

NO you can't teleport objects, which is a real bummer!

Is it? I can see the griefers having a blast with that....

Yup, that's the problem with so many things you might want in SL, they're double-edged swords. And so they have to be considered carefully before being added.
