Killing pyramids

Hi all - I am fed up with these stupid pyramid schemes that have popped up everywhere and that the Lindens never clean up, even though I abuse report them (that's a lot of friggin abuse reports.)

I've discovered that I can actually sneak things into the pyramid's content folder if I click to edit it. I put a notecard into a couple of them that says pyramids are bad. Is there a script out there that a do-gooder like me can shove into these things to make them die? Go away? Become non-functional? Explode and take off the owner's head with it?

heh. Wonder if a good ol' llDie() would work?

Let us know, wouldja?

CODE
default
{
state_entry()
{
llInstantMessage( llGetOwner(), "Pyramids are evil :)" );
llDie();
}
}

Well, they let me put notecards inside them, but the pyramids shout at me that I'm not allowed to edit them when I try to put scripts in them. Ah well. It was a nice try.

You could always cover them with a prim. Make it a nice looking one though, that looks like it belongs or at least doesn't pollute ... a large rock maybe.

Just a small point here but if you did sucessfully destroy the pyramid object and the owner somehow traced it back to you, then they would be fully justified in AR'ing you for destroying their builds.

If it's placed on land that everybody can build on (which is most likely the case), you could simply cover the pyramid with a cube for example.

Thanks - yes I could cover them up but I don't like to add to clutter or take away from the legit land owner's prim count. But perhaps they don't need their prims if they aren't clearing pyramids off the land. :) I just feel kinda bad for the new people who don't know any better and get sucked into these schemes.

As far as the owners AR-ing me if I did find a way to destroy the pyramids - I AR the owners all the time because pyramids are against TOS and nothing ever happens. ;)

Interesting thing - I found through searching the forums that the pyramid creator realized what he had done and felt remorse and asked Linden Labs to help him fix the problem way back in October - yet the pyramids still multiply like rabbits.

Except that pyramid schemes are specifically and directly forbidden in the Terms of Service, so what are they going to say? "Boo hoo, that mean person destroyed my illegal pyramid scheme vendor?"

Quite possibly, 2 wrongs dont make a right so you would still be greifing them.

If you want I have a box with text on it that warns people that they could lose their account for using these. I have placed them hovering above pyramids in public sandboxes. Of course, you could probably make one of these in a couple of minutes yourself, but I'll drop it on you if you want, and it would save you the 10L upload for a texture. It ain't much, but maybe we could keep a few newbies from falling for the scam.

I occasionally go to the public sandboxes and cover up stuff for sale, advertisements, and other "illegal" stuff. I know, it doesn't help much, but if a lot more people did this then maybe it would help some.

I gave up ARing the stuff just recently, when I got email from LL saying my AR was resolved. It took me a few seconds to realize that this AR had been made MORE THAN TWO WEEKS EARLIER!!! How worthless can it be to not do anything for 2 weeks? It makes me sick sometimes.

BTW, the offer for the scam warning box goes for anyone who wants one. Just IM me, or ask here.

That's one possible interpretation. Another viewpoint is that by griefing, a griefer has signaled his belief that the ToS does not apply to him - the ToS is not meant to be used as a shield by griefers.

However, it's not possible to delete an object from a parcel unless you either own it, or have been given the right to do so by the owner. This is never a ToS violation. At that level, it is simply exercising the rights of the land owner.

The controls and permissions systems make it impossible to destroy somebody else's objects under any other circumstances anyway.

Unfortunately interpretation is everything.
I'm not trying to defend anyone here, just playing Devil's advocate.
A pyramid in itself isn't a griefing tool, its a violation of the ToS, but that doesnt make it a greifing tool.

Not actually 100% true. Especially if they dont know what they are doing.
