Would anyone be interested in entering some sort of obfuscated LSL contest?
I'm sure most of you have heard of it but here is the link: http://www.ioccc.org
I think having an IOCCC-style contest would be a good opportunity for the scripting community to expose some obscure LSL quirks or advanced techniques, and who knows, maybe LL would get to fix something they hadnt been made aware of.
Maybe we could get people to donate money towards the prize?
I'll throw in at least $1000 to sweeten the pot.

oh.

When I read the title I thought you'd finally cracked, Eggy.

Or leaned on the keyboard or something. :p

I'll raise it another L$1000.

Great idea, Eggy.

I tried running this competition back in Febuary; but I'll add in another L$1000.

I'd give it a shot, what might the rules be like? (I'm thinking specifically, is the submitted thing a script or an object?)

I would suggest that it be a script, that can be dropped onto a blank cube, and do something visible in-world.

The more obtuse and unreadable the code, the better.

I have three Jr. scripters in my shop that could win this competition hands-down. All they'd need would be a complete design specification, including sample code and logic structures for them to ignore.

*sigh*

IOCCC rules:
http://www0.us.ioccc.org/rules.html
IOCCC guidelines:
http://www0.us.ioccc.org/guidelines.html

Basically, do something cute, small, obfuscate the source to the point that it barely even compiles, relying on little-known LSL quirks etc.
Be creative! :)

Those are bad rules for this proposed contest Eggy. For example, they say I can use OpenMotif, and there's a lot of stuff in there about build environment etc.

I would propose the following as a starting point:

0) To enter this contest, submit a single unlinked primitive with one script (and nothing else) in its inventory. You must also submit a description of what your script does.
1) The object will be rez'ed from the judge's inventory, and should perform its task at this time
2) The judge will *not* grant any permissions to the script.
3) Scripts will be subjectively judged on correctness (it does what you said it does), obfusation and coolness
4) The following prizes will be awarded...
