HUDs attaching as invisible.

Hi.
I am having trouble with objects attaching HUDs invisibly.

Here's what's happening:
the person touches the object
it asks for permission to attach
it attaches to the HUD as transparent
the program slowly makes it less and less transparent (using llSetAlpha)
but...
the object attached to the HUD never becomes opaque.

It used to work up until the last update, it seems.

Also, if you attach the object, log off and log on, it works perfectly.

I have reported this as a bug, (and well as several people who use my items), but does anyone know a work around? Or perhaps someway (other than logging) to "reset" the avatar's HUD?

Any help would be apperciated.

Thanks.

IIRC you can force a full prim update with llSetText.

I have had this problem on and off with my products that use HUDs. It showed up during Firstlook client testing and then went away, came back... etc. I bug reported it already. However At this time my HUDs are working after I made one change. Before I would have the HUD transparent at the time of attach, that seemed to cause the issues. I've found if it's opaque during attach, and you turn it transparent afterward, this issues goes away. You could also simply detach and then reattach the HUD. But of course that makes having a HUD that auto-attaches worthless :). Hope this helps.

Thank you both.

And I will try both ways (just be sure it works. :-) )

But one question to you AJ, do I do a llSetText("",<0,0,0>,0) just after it attaches or anytime during the program?

In your example, either after the first step of your fade in or, if that doesn't work, after each one.

is THIS what you're experiencing?
04-13-2007 01:52
  1. rez a new cube
    Cube appears on the ground

  2. right click, attach to hud Center 2
    Cube appears in your face.

  3. right click cube, drop
cube vanishes... several seconds later, it becomes visible.

  4. Right click cube, and select "Wear"
Cube appears invisible on hud. Does not become visible.

This is a new bug to me.. I think it's a 1.14.x bug.

This bug is very elusive. Both your suggestions don't work. Even if when I make the prim opaque before it attaches and it just looks like it never does. It's almost like HUD forgets it's there. (For further clarification, it's two prims. The primary turns invisible and attaches to the center HUD and the child grows to fill the screen. But not only can you not see the large child prim, you cannot see the small primary prim even though it's not transparent.)

The only way to see it, it seems, is to log off and log back on.

I'm having trouble with what would be called Z-depth in any normal program when attaching HUDs too. Definitely something screwy going on.

Okay, that's just crazy. Especially since there is NO Z-depth when it comes to the HUD. Any Lindens about? :-)

Yes there is. It's the Y axis IIRC.

EDIT: Just had some (but not all) prims not appearing at all on attach (all prims are using the same couple of textures).

EDIT2: No, it's the X axis.

Oh. I didn't know that, obviously. :-)

Also, I'm presently out of ideas as to what to do to bypass this error. But from what you're explaining, it seems like there's really no way and we have to wait for the Lindens to fix it.

Well perhaps you are doing things differently than I, because I no longer see this issue. I will say I do offset the distance in the Z direction. If you like I could contact you in world for more effective dialog about the subject. :)

I would really apperciate that. :-) Thank you so much. I'm usually online after 9pm and I'll be online all weekend.

Thank you all for your help.

Played around with this last night by making a new single prim into a HUD and had the same problem.

So I took an existing working HUD (also single prim) and recompiled its script and dettached it, reattached it, no problem.

Took the working prim deleted all its scripts and put in all the ones from the non working object, recompiled, and attached and it worked fine!!!!!

I am also developing a hud. I have a bulldozer that rezzes it, and it asks for permission to attach, and if I click yes, it more than half the time attaches without showing its prims. However, all the llSetText messages (about 40 of them) do show in their correct places.

My work around is to drop it (through the inventory entry as there is nothing to click on screen) and then attach it again. Then it shows fine.

Does anyone have any ideas of other workarounds?

Unfortunately, detaching and wearing or attaching it again is the only work around. Detaching and wearing it from the inventory is much less messy.

I put up a jira report (as a VRW problem but I'm not sure of the number) but do a search on HUD attachments and you'll find it. vote for it, please, so that they'll do something about it. maybe. I hope......

Yes as mentioned earlier in the thread, Owner and I spent some time in-world trying to determine why His HUD still had the issue and mine no longer does. We were never able to figure out exactly what single thing was causing the difference in behavior. It seems to be a very elusive bug.

Thank you for the reference, Ultralite

And we do have someone assigned to it! :-)
