is there anyway to make a prim stream audio? from an online radio station or url mp3 file? i know it can be done with uploaded audio clips, but can a remote url be used for streaming audio on a prim?

Not sure if this is what you mean or not, but you can use a script in a prim to set the parcel audio stream using llSetParcelMusicURL.

na, i know this one already.

looking to have the prim itself play the music, not the land. like a personal walkman persay. prims can play sounds now, but only uploaded ones that i know.

i'm curious if there is a way to have a prim play streaming audio.

Sorry Athena, you're out of luck there. The only way to get streaming audio into SL is through the land tools - unfortunate, but understandable if you imagine the hotbed of music piracy this place could become if people could upload or stream anything, anywhere.

Determined people have worked around this by chopping audio into <10 second segments, uploading them as (mono) WAV, and scripting solutions to play them back in order, but it's awfully kludgy and due to the latency inherent in clients downloading a bunch of WAV files it's not much good other than as a novelty for audio gestures and such, IMHO.

There is a hack that allows you to locally control iTunes (I think) but only you can hear the audio. Personally I rarely ever turn music on so it doesn't matter!

As was once explained to me many a moon ago: The reason prims don't get to stream music is: What do ya do about 100 prims all pointed at different URLs?

The current method used by some to make a prim play music ( stringing 10 second snippets together ) demonstrated to me one the bandwidth problem when someone rezed a dozen of them and started them up all at once. Ugleh! And SL throttles the bandwidth for you...
