Permissions problem...

Hi there,

I am a total newb to all of this scripting, but I love to build and had to figure it out for my new idea. I built a message board with lots of little notes on it. It's really cute. I used a notecard giver, landmark giver, etc and put them all on the notes, which are on the board I built. I have worked on it for days and thought I had all the kinks worked out so I put it up for sale.

Now I sold my first one and even though I have every single little piece of this thing set to mod/copy I have been told that they cannot access the scripts in order to change the name of the notecards.

Is there another step when allowing permission to modify the scripts embedded in objects that I am unaware of?

TIA for an assistance.

Hmm... you set the "next owner" permission on everything to mod/copy? It should work-- check it all again.

All set right...

Thanks for answering so quickly Keknehv!

I went back and checked, double-checked, re-checked and checked again and ALL items used in this object are set to mod/copy for the next owner, from the posts that make the frame to the light even. Is it possible that it is set correctly but the new owner does not know how to open the script? From their profile they appear to have been in SL for a LONG time, so I tend to take her word over mine that it is not working as I have only been here for three weeks.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again Keknehv :-)

P.S. Anyone out there care to come and try it out and let me know if they can duplicate the problem? Free message board in it for ya ;-) IM Jem Plunkett if interested.

Nope...not working...

Well, I set up another character on a basic account, went to my shop and bought the message board. Sure enough, it comes through as no copy/no mod!

Now how in the world? I thought maybe it was the box I packaged the object in that was the trouble, but it is set to copy/mod.

I am about at my wit's end here because I have looke dit over so many times and it all seems to be set right, but when bought all the permissions seem to lock up on it.

Anyone have any clues what I can try?

Thanks...

Permission bugs have been a big hair-puller for many merchants. Without seeing the object itself, I can't say that it is a bug, but I would not be surprised if it were, and possibly insurmountable.

For example, I have a box of stuff all made by me (including the box) but cannot even view the contents of the box even though it says it was created by me, is owned by me and contains not a single thing that was not created by me.

If you post the location of where you are selling your goods, I could take a peek - no promises, alas.

One last thing to check for, if you use someone else's texture in your device it may need to be full open permissions or the entire purchased item may be reduced to the most restrictive permission on any script, texture, whatever that the device contains or is composed of.

I'll keep your suggestions in mind. When I went back to SL some nice fellow had read my post and told me that there are permissions on the scripts themselves under properties. I had not realized this and suspect that is the problem. I am using a brick texture that I am not sure of though...I'll check that next if this does not fix it.

Thanks for your assistance :-)

That will almost definitely be the problem. Scripts default to no-transfer, no-mod, no-copy (I think).

Transfer, no mod, no copy. You can't have both transfer and copy turned off, turning one off greys the other out to on.
