Hi all
Is there an easy way to put text on a prim face without just uploading a texture of it?

No, not really. Not yet - it's planned in the way of HTML on a prim face, but that's a good while off.
Otions now are llSetText() which hovers text over the prim, and a script called XyText, which will put 6 characters on a cube prim, two to a side over three sides. _____________________

So the score on say a Tringo card is several prims with just the texture of each digit?

Yes, by and large. One prim face per two digits is a typical method.
If you use the XyText script you'll see how it flattens out a cube prim to expose three sides to the viewer, giving you six digits. _____________________

You can also use the QT media streams to dynamically load in jpeg's off a webhost or for that matter, straight text files.
