Need Script to say Thank you

Is it possible for an object to say thank you and give the customers name after being purchased, such as Thank you, Renta Sloan, for your purchase. I am new at scripting and any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Check the CHANGED_OWNER event, particularly as described in the table at the bottom of . If, for example, the object is being sold as a copy, it's possible both for the original to respond at the time of sale, and for the purchased copy to do so when it's first rezzed by the new owner. (I don't think the original can know directly who bought the copy, though.)

Also, vendor scripts that implement the "Pay" interface (as opposed to "Buy";) know who triggered the money() event.

Thanks for your response but need more help. I am clueless and would be willing to pay for right script.

If it's an unscripted purchase... (you set a pay price and people are just doing a 'buy' instead of 'pay' option).. then I don't believe this is possible. I may be wrong, but I've yet to see anything that tells the original object that someone has purchased a copy.

No, there is nothing that will respond to something being bought, for the good reason that whatever has been bought does not yet exist in-world and thus should not have any scripts working.

For something which offers a thank-you on its first rez, the following should do, as indicated by Mr or Ms Niangao:

default
{
changed(integer change)
{
if (change & CHANGED_OWNER) {
llOwnerSay("Thank you for purchasing this item! Blah-de-blah-de-blah, whatever nonsense you want goes here...";);
}
}
}

Paste that into a new script in the item, and it will activate whenever the item changes owners, likely when you sell it.

edit: dash and blast the lack of formatting codes!

Take and drop this in the box or even the object itself. The first time it is rezzed it will say "Thank you Buyer Name for purchasing this". Then it will remove itself from the objects inventory.

CODE

default
{
on_rez(integer start_param)
{
string owner = llKey2Name(llGetOwner());
llOwnerSay("Thank you " + owner + " for purchasing this");
llRemoveInventory(llGetScriptName());
}
}

Incidentally, I have decided to give up posting any more scripting examples as a pointless protest against the months of utter inaction on the part of LL as regards returning this forum to any sort of proper functionality, as regards tags. Code examples are unreadable without at least PHP or CODE tags.

If anyone wishes to contribute and vote for this immensely tiny thing to be fixed (for all that is worth, I and 62 others have been badgering about it for months now and nothing ever happens) they might do so here - and note that because of the lack of tag support, you will have to paste the link into your browser:

Don't really blame you. We have lost a few good ones because of this reason. Gearsawe quit posting here out of protest and the long time Scripting Forum God and my idol; The Mighty Newgate Ludd.

In case you do get the bug again and are tired of looking at the goobledy gook on the screen here then I found another workaround the other day. Take and paste the unformatted code here into LSLEditor and hit ctrl D, it will auto indent and color the code.

Well, I have decided to open my own scripting forum, which likely will die a horrible underused death but may not, hey ho. At least there will be some properly formatted examples there. I shall follow with appropriate details.

AH definittely send me a link when it is open. I haven't ever really been happy with any of the outside forums for scripting yet. It is such a pain to post scripts to the wiki for all to see. This ties in with my one major complaint:

LL keeps the majority of the population from even reading the content creation forums here and that sucks.

If you do get the forum, just don't ban me for derailing the thread like we have here :-) heehee

I voted for it a while back, as the CODE tag made this forum almost unusable. I've started helping in here again, but it's damn painful. I have to C&P the code into a text editor with an lsl definitions just to see what somebody elses code is supposed to be doing.

That said, it's already the most popular issue in the Web project, and the only Linden to have been involved in the comments has flat out said she has no idea what's going on. So I don't think more votes are going to have any effect to be honest.

I do wish they'd turn autoparsing of urls off by default, if they aren't going to re-enable bbcode.

Actually I THINK I have pretty good insight as to what is going on and THINK it is going to happen fairly soon. This is all by deduction but if you read the Jira on bbcode, then you will see where I called out what the exploit was that LL still refuses to admit there was one. I found the exploit after talking to Suzanne Baskerville in this thread(Actually Suzanne found the exploit and has it posted on her blog. I found the security bulleton on it):

/274/3d/210969/1.html

Strange how LL hasn't admitted the bug yet and that thread was moved to moderation :rolleyes:

Well anyways, back to the deduction. If you do a google search for bbcode and security you will see that it is an on going war with hackers over the years and a popular target. It is more then slightly crazy to tie our log in info into the authorisation cookies for this forum. Hence there is no use in updating this site to a newer VBCode version until the security is fixed permanently. If you are on SLDev then you know about the upcoming web api that we will be logging into that will then authorize our entry into Jira, the forums, the wiki and also the viewer. Although this will be a pain for a lot of us with the viewer it will fix the other multiple vulnerable spots we have including here.

Bet everyone $L1 that within a couple of weeks of the switch over to the api the forum is finally upgraded and bbcode reenabled.

Well, I have started a preliminary scripting forum (and again, there will be no direct clicking...)

http://ordinalmalaprop.com/forum/

Doubtless many things will need to be changed.

Fantastic! I can SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Already posted a script. Are you going to make a formal announcement in the Scripting Forum? You are slightly more then well known in the scripting community and should have to power to draw the scripters over there.

Sorry Anabella! If either of these 2 scripts aren't exactly what you are looking for then just get back to us and we'll fix you up!
