Trying to find out how to display scrolling text on a hud a bit like the contest boards. This has nothing to do with contests just giving a visual image. Most prim-based text displays use a set of open-source scripts called XYText, see here: http://rpgstats.com/wiki/index.php?title=XyText _____________________

So every character is a texture ? Is that what I am reading ? Nope. Every character is on just one large single texture that is already in world. With xytext or the newer version available in the LSL wiki Examples library, this texture is specified in the scripts by key. The script offsets that one texture so that only one character is shown per face. _____________________

And no, html on a prim isn't currently an option, although it is believed it's a priority within LL. _____________________

Scrolling Noticeboard Editable text
10-13-2007 15:19
I have a scrolling noticeboard at my ski resort at Te Whare Huka at Ayas(http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ayas/98/155/137).
You can enter the text from the keyboard so it is freely editable, but currently only up to 12 characters, to put HTML on it would need a simple change to the script. Have a look and contact me if you are interested in having it changed. I have also used editable characters in a controller I made for exclusive use by a client. |

Guess that uses some crazy quicktime-streaming type of jiggery-pokery.

Well, if you can remove all of the html tags, you get html on a prim minus all the pretty features found in most html pages. Its like copying and pasting this page into notepad, gedit, vi, or whatever plain text editor suits your fancy.
If you use llHTTPRequest on this page its like right clicking this page and selecting the view source option. Four Thousand characters of that mess will be in the body of an http response event. Now its all up to you and the lsl code to render it all correctly. If you were looking for images and fonts to go with your html, your better off using a web server of your own. Create a php page with the image libraries to proxy another webpage as an image. Use quicktime to load that image on your parcel and youre all set. |

The results of an http request will not be in a texture format. You can take a picture of a web page and upload it to display or you can stream media. But as of this point in time and despite many requests to do so, we can not directly show a web page on a prim. _____________________

Now its all up to you and the lsl code to render it all correctly. Which is exactly what he's asking... we know you can get data via http. You can also get it from countless other places. What he's asking for is a way to display text (either from html or otherwise...), which you keep asserting can be done simply by using http. _____________________

Scrolling Noticeboard Editable text
10-14-2007 16:37
I was assuming the extraction of text from HTML input. My editable scrolling notice board is like the Time Square NYC ticker tape notices, it just takes the individual letters in a text message and displays them, the text message can come from anywhere. It is totally editable and can display messages from chat

I need to be able to have a scrolling list of Avatar names.
I don't specifically need html, I was just shocked that text display was so primitive. I'm working on getting that utility to run right now pita. |
