The "LSL Wiki" has all kinds of good info on scripting, including tutorials. I have found it to be invaluable when learning to script.

Aaron Perkins has an excellent script for vehicles which has revolving wheels and turning front wheels.
There is a place you can pick up a freebie car built with his scripts, I forget where, but I found it myself just by searching the forums. I build vehicles (can't help you with guns), but can't script to save my life, so modify the freebie scripts. My advice, read the Building and the scripting forums from top to bottom, every question you could possibly have has already been answered by someone else ![]() Pick up as many freebie vehicles as you can and pull them apart, see how they're built and scripted. Learn to build before you try to build vehicles, the 31 prim limit is a pain, but teaches you to be economical. IM me in world if you need a copy of Aaron Perkins car. _____________________

but there is NO gun tutorials besides the one example script. Cmon there has got to be a good gun tutorial???

Guns (like vehicals) are a bit of a pain to script. The only tutorials for making vehicals (that I remember) were first penned by LL. Guns tend to be used in unfriendly ways (more so then cars), so LL not writing a guide on gun scripting might have had a definite reduction in gun related greifing in the past. Though at this point aquiring weaponry makes it a moot point.
There are quite a few free weapons floating around SL that you could learn from. There is a set of them the name starts with "FF" (it stands for Fallen Faith, a commercial cyber punk group that made weapons and vehicals; once upon a time i was a member and did some of thier scripting, but that was a long time ago) that are free and open source. _____________________

You can go to a place like Yadni's or other newbie store, buy a box (or a few) of 20+ weapons each for few lindens, then take the guns apart and look into their scripts...
just a thought o.o; |

The freely & easily available watermellon gun is full mod as well... at least I think so... I remember making a flame thrower gun by modding it back when I was a noob.

I am interested in learning vehicles and I got some great scripts (sadly, only one is very heavily commented), and the Linden tutorial but neither do a great job of actually communicating an understanding of the basic concepts. Is there no "Vehicles for Dummies" manual out there? |

There's vehicle tutorial on scripting Wiki page, fairly long and covering the basics from what i could see. http://secondlife.com/badgeo/wakka.php?wakka=TutorialVehicle The building library (ivory tower of primitives) in-world also has some pointers about vehicle building, i think.... worth checking in any case. edit: the wiki tutorial was already linked in this thread, so if it isn't simple enough then i dunno ^^;;; |
