How do I make a website interact with an object?

The only thing on the wiki is LSL functions but there's nothing saying how to get it from the other end.

I want to make an online store for my SL business, but I need to know how to have a deposit box work ingame as well as a box that will give out objects by command from the website.

Please let me know if you know how to do this! Thanks!

llHTTPRequest for once
and
XML/RPC

Though you need to have the smarts and the website needs to support it to get it to work.

You may eventually be best off by purchasing a ready made solution.
JEVN / APEZ Vending systems come to mind.

Egads. Such a lot of work.

Have you first asked yourself if you were to go with shop on rez, or slexchange and pay the commission, (both already do what you're after), if your time would not be more profitably spent on something else?

Or, is your product line so big (a la xcite), that you definitely need the distinctive branding of your own store?

Unless you have a team behind you, you could spend so much time on the store that you never have time to sell anything.

Actually, SLEx was put up backed on free, open-source software...and the process of putting it all together couldn't have been THAT much work. Sure, it's evolved over time...but the work to reward ratio that's gone into SLEx staggeringly favors the reward. OnRez got millions in funding and made something that looks pretty, but I can't even get my account to login.

Ah, but the hidden cost in all software, whatever the initial cost, is the person hours to configure and deploy it, non?

That's why any Information Technology exists, 'cause we are all courageous enough to say that to ourselves from time to time. I expect the fellow who first dreamt up the pyramids said that too :}

You must be Canadian. You almost sound as if that's a Bad Thing :}

Hmm. I'd give that another shot. They seem pretty fast these days even at getting back to you. You can set up your own shopfronts now, you know?

But many people say that regardless, the lion's share of the traffic and sales are on slexchange, and my experience bears that out.

Nah, I'm not Canadian...but I do tend to lean toward the idea that business is more about making a quality product than getting as much $ as possible.

Lemme be clear...SLEx and OnRez are great sites...and it's not like I have a competitor to recommend in their spot. I also find that the majority of my online sales come from SLEx, but I would like to get my OnRez shop back up and running...SLB was good for a couple sales a week at least...
