First off, I want to say that I appreciate the work that Nada does in moderating the script library. It can't be easy to look at all of the submissions and make sense of them (especially my most recent, which is a bit involved). So thanks Nada!

What would be great: somewhere in-world where we can go to get the most recent submissions, as well as the archives.

Does this already exist?

I know that with my stuff, it's easier to relate to a ready-to-go object, than to copy/paste a few files and hope that it works.

I'm not trying to give Nada any more work to do. I do think that it will make it easier for folks to get to new stuff. Perhaps it can become an optional part of the submission process: submit a demo object.

If land needs to be purchased for this (like a 512 somewhere), I will kick in a few hundred L to help get it going (we dont need beachfront water views, right? -- just a place that can be LM'ed that everyone can get to)

I've wanted to do something like an in-world library for a long time now. I have a place, I even made shelf-space for scripts. But then I ran into a daunting task... categorization. Personally, I wouldn't want to visit a script library and get 100 scripts when I only need 1.

I brainstormed a few ideas, but they would all require cooperation from the wiki library and the forums library. Basically, I figured a card-catalog system would work, same as in RL libraries (dewey decimal or something better.) But this would require a post on every script thread with the catalog number.

Then, I realized that would be a crappy system to manage. So, I brainstormed another idea... and offline server script that took input from inworld. Basically, central servers would contain all scripts. Kiosks could be placed around the world which, when clicked would prompt for either script-name, or a keyword. The user would chat: "name facemaker" to receive the facemaker script... or chat: "keyword import" for a list of scripts associated with that keyword (then choose a name again to receive the script.) Obviously, an outside resource would be required to process the requests.

But then, after I brainstormed those ideas... I realized that it'd probably be better to give up and let people search the libraries at the forums and wiki. Two more problems crept-up... some of the scripts get updated occasionaly, or improved. Even more critical, any of the scripts are actually multiple scripts with notecards required as well... not to mention pages of explainations to go along with each script.

So, I gave up.

I wouldn't even try to categorize. Tags. Tags are good. There's too much in SL that defies categorization ...

Someone could walk into the place, say "/1 rez" and get a list of scripts that match the tag "rez". Could be a call to a server. Could be a long drawn out search plowing through an object with A-Z notecards...

For packages that aren't tagged, one could do a simple search on titles.

I would bet that most of the pieces to make this happen are within scripts that have already been posted :-)

Keeping it simple by just having one in-world place would be good. It's just a TP away from anywhere.
