Hi All, I have been playing with the new functionality to see somebody's rendering cost. But not everybody has the RC, or the know how to even turn their advanced menu on (and its probably just as well to leave them that way, lol). But it occurred to me that what we need is a freebie "Scale" that an avatar could click on that would give them this information. Is it possible to calculated an avatar's rendering cost in world in this way? If so, I think it would be a *huge* boon to venue owners and events organizers because it would be easy to use and would people to identify themselves as the causes of lag. Even better, if it IS possible to do this, to be able to make a list of the persons attachments with the costs next to it. So that they can SEE that that the darned Calico hair they are wearing has a rendering cost of FIVE THOUSAND ALL BY ITSELF! Anyways, random question. But if it is possible, i bet it would be a good seller for the scripter who can do it.

I like to consider 5000 a good starting point. I just feel safer with my ARC up there. It's like, I could go lower, but how do I know I'm doing it right? It's all about confidence, really. (^_^)y

thank god, it is not possible to detect ARC via LSL.
Frankly, I wish there was a way to detect who had the "can see everyone's arc score" turned on.. so I could build a device to kick those people off my land. Aren't there already more than enough excuses that people use to treat each other poorly without you policing how many prims or whatever that OTHER PEOPLE are wearing?

Yeah, I have to say even if this were possible and I could make a good deal of money writing and selling it, I wouldn't because frankly I think some people are blowing this ARC rating way out of proportion. (Then again, this is SL and blowing things out of proportion seems to be a way of life for some residents. But I digress...) It's bad enough that some places already have "OMG, user X is wearing scripted attachments and might be lagging th3 sim!!!!1" scanners although the sheer irony of them using such a device...which in itself is likely causing more lag than the attachments it's detecting, is quite amusing.
