I am interested in creating a picture viewer with the ability to display web-based images. The only problem is that, from what I have read, this does not seem possible. So my question is this...
Could I create a movie viewer with the ability to stream video content frame by frame. The idea would be to have 2 buttons, next and previous, that would allow people to view the content in such a way that it pauses after every frame.
This sounds feasible to me but then again I don't have much experience with second life or LSL.
My goal is to create a system allowing for people to upload content to a virtual gallery without interacting directly with the client. To that end, I am trying to improvise.
Another idea would be to deal with movies that are only 1 frame long.
Any ideas? What's the closest anyone has come to achieving this?
Thanks for your time.

You are guessing right. This is not possible.
Also, do not rely on people having video enabled or quicktime installed.
Your best bet is to provide people a web url so they can visit that gallery of yours.
Or just go ahead and upload the content in SL and display it like everyone else does.

Hmm, well I'll continue to look around. Plan B would be an automated upload procedure, is that also impossible?
Having one account, the only purpose of it being to allow certain people to upload through it via a web-based interface.
Uploading the pictures myself would be a last resort. Is there no other way then?

There is no known way to automatically upload content to SL.
I guess you will be stuck doing it manually.

Look at http://www.secondvita.com/, it can be done. 2 Ways : use Quicktime (i dont know how, but it has been done) or have a libsl based Bot upload Images (see IA_ImageTool in libsl for Example).

You could theoretically use a modified client to perform automatic uploads. Likewise you could modify the client to allow access via a web interface if you where so inclined.

Here is a link to a project that someone did that at least meet part of your needs. http://www.hackdiary.com/archives/000087.htmlFor picture upload they can send postcard to an email address. Take a look at http://snapshots.slbuzz.com/search/ they use that procedure.
