I am not even sure what it is exactly I am looking for, tried door and draw scripts, I just want the lid to open on touch.
Can anyone tell me what it is I should buy?

a door script is probably the way you want to go, the timeless door script is probably an overkill, but it will work to save the open/closed position rather than just rotating on a specified axis like most door scripts

that's actually not "sleepiness" so much as "laziness", physically and mentally.

I dunno... I've had nights after a party... stumbling into the bathroom in the dark...

Anyway... same logic could apply to women: just put the seat down if you need to. If we leave the seat up it's more convenient next time we need to use it.

2 problems with that... men need to sit sometimes too, and how hard is it to aim if you've got the built in nozzle there?

I've made this sort of thing before. I wanted a good looking toilet for in build that had realistic bathrooms, and just wanted to be able to lift the lid and to sit on it. No animations, just a simple static sit pose.

Use a standard door script for an un-linked door, and have the lid made from a flattened and dimpled or path cut sphere, with a second cylindrical prim for the hinge point. The hinge prim is the root prim of the two-prim linkset, and contains the door script.

If you want the seat to also lift, use a flattened and dimpled torus for that, and another hinge prim. In that case, the toilet would be three linksets - the stool, the seat, and the lid.

Add pose balls as required, if you feel it is necessary for your use.

You can't readily use a single-prim solution, because the lid for a toilet is the wrong shape. Any basic door script pivots on the prim center, and most doors are cube prims, path cut in half. To get a circular lid to appear to pivot on it's edge generally takes a second prim as a pivot point.

There are other ways to do it. For example, you could have one lid in the lowered position, and a second lid in the raised position, and touching one makes that prim invisible and the other one visible. You won't see it move, but it can all easily be linked.

Make a sculpty prim with the sculpt map squished into the 0.5 .. 1.0 range.

if you go the sculpty route, you can align the bounding box so that the hinge is centered. i used that method to make a 1 prim lamp post so that the center of the prim was actually centered on the lantern part so that the particles would be in the right place

My Ex would complain if a visitor left the seat up occassionally, but she used to always leave the cover lid open herself, go figure................

Well not too hard , but sometimes you point the hose in the right direction then find the nozzle is spraying 30 degrees off centre, of course you find this out just as you have relaxed and opened the tap to the fully open position, which requires 10 turns to stop it again. It's maybe a once a year occurance for me, not really a problem at a public urinal with 4feet of stainless to aim for, but I believe some guys suffer from it on a more regular basis.
