I'm kinda new to the whole script thing, and I want to make christmas lights or patio lights that have that glow around them and for the life of me can't find out the proper words to look for in a script. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Those are glowing particles. Go to the Particle Laboratory to learn about them. I forget where it is so you have to search for it.

Actually, if I wanted a halo around a fixed object, I would probably put a 75% transparent or so full-bright sphere around it... although you could probably do something with particles too.

(More to the point, if you want flickering or twinkling particles are better; if you want a constant glow, I don't see why you'd mess with particles.)

Wouldn't the transparent, full-bright sphere have a sharp edge? With particles you can get a diffuse fade-out.

Use both, and make sure to set the globe to glowing the proper color.
