Is there a script way of determining which face of a prim is being touched (clicked)?

Nope. It's been feature requested many times and I am sure there is a jira somewhere to vote on for it.

Iridium Linden recently posted a message to sl-dev about which new lsl functions should take priority, and some method of detecting the face and/or xy coordinates of a touch were priorities for many people.

It would open up a lot of possibilities and save a lot of prims - nice addition to this would be the ability to identify the colour that was touched - that could blow SL as we know it.
Thanks
