Hi... I'm new to scripts really.
But I was wondering.
When I create a door script and use the coordinates for the door's position, will the door still work once it has been linked to the building, then boxed up, sold, opened and rezzed in a new place?
I'm asking because surely the coordinates would then be wrong?

Depends on the script... doors, first of all, should usually not be linked to the build. That can often cause problems. However, if it still works while linked (And before you box it up) then it should work fine when rezzed elsewhere. All door scripts I've seen work with coordinates/rotations relative to it's original placement, not directly connected with the location within a sim.

You have to determine the original coordinates of the closed door and calculate the open coordinates when moving a door to a different place and wanting it to work. 2. Only single prim doors can be linked.. If your door consists of multiple prims, then it can not be linked.

Hmm ok.... not sure how to work out those coordinates... maybe I'll have to fiddle and see. But thankyou for that info. Starfire. Thankyou, I knew that part... it was the door working elsewhere that I was confused about.

You can always use an alt to test things too. The alt should not have any permissions for your stuff. That is the best way. Box it, pass it, test it. Repeat till no problems.

I have never linked doors to a build. More often then not, the whole build would swing line a door, what a sight!. Not as bad as linking the whole build to a ceiling fan, now that was something. The whole house was going around at warp speed...LOL. Anyway, getting back on track, I use 'Builder Buddy' to rezz out a build. That way I can incorporate the 'Builder Buddy' component scripts in the doors and such and the whole build rezzes complete, with all doors in place. Love it, and it is easy to use.

the timeless door script is the only script I have come across that can be linked to a house.
