I'm having a really bad time because i do have like 0 of privacy. I do run an store and i got a lot of IM's of people that work for me and clients.

I did noticed that some of these people uses an Gadget that can tell them if i'm online or not even if i did choice the option in "friends" tab of don't showing me online. Also i did choose the other option of only my friends and my groups can see me online, but i really want to EVERYBODY to see me offline or at least an aswering machine as when you're in "Busy" state.

I was wondering, there's a way to really really keep my privacy by scripting an gadget? it's posible to be show offline all the time (and i would LOVE a lot that when the person talks to me it will send the message to my email as when i am offline, you know, for a perfect coveregue)

Since i can't mute these people, i can't be rude or else, i also have put in my profile to let me work. Because IM's don't let me work.

Is this posible? It's posible to do this?

its called making an Alt, lots of builders do this, have an Alt they tell no one about and the Alt never makes friends with anyone or joins anything and they log on with that for building. if you want to be seen as the creator, then when the build is completed just swap the root prim with a version of that prim you've made.

The answer to your question is, "no." There are lots of things they can do to determine if you're online, even without a scripted gadget that knows your user key. The alt suggestion is a good one. I have a business alt with an empty friends list that I use whenever I'm only logging on to work with a specific customer or do some building.

Yes, i know. It's not that i want to look as the owner. I do not only build, i need to stay in that account an large period of time. For me it's not an option to make an Alt. But scripted there's any other way to keep this?

And thanks for your repply!

Yes, people can use a script to determine whether you are online or not. Certainly. They also used to be able to map you before the friends system was revamped. The common solution to the latter problem was to make it clear for those who did not already respect your privacy that you would really appreciate that respect. I'd say the same is true now.

It might even be considered harassment if people bother you when you hide your status, so long as you have asked them not to. That's not a pleasant road to consider, but it's there if you need it....

Following on from Hewee's comments, provide an email address in your profile (and any notecards etc you might hand out with products) and explicitly ask people to use the email address or drop you a notecard instead of IMs. When you receive an IM politely ask that it be transferred to notecard such that you can respond at a more appropriate time (this response could be pre-written and copy&pasted into any IMs you receive). If you have the facility a web-based form would also suffice as a means of leaving messages. Next level up from that is a dedicated forum, knowledge base or ticket-based system.

Ah. Just realized, remember the "Busy" status too. That can help to a limited degree.

heyas;

someone told me to copy the 'this user is offline' message you get when you send an im to an offline person, and then paste it to your 'busy mode' message. then, apparently, when you go into busy mode, you will get the im, but the sender will get the 'this user is offline, blah blah blah' message and figure you are, in fact, offline.

btw, you dont have to be online for them to send you ims. so they don't really need to CARE if you're online or not. if you had this 'gadget' to make you appear offline, they'd just im you anyway, so you'd get it later when you logged in.

in your profile, indicate that they should use your email address, or drop notecards, when you are offline. then, use the busy mode 'offline spoof' mentioned above to appear to be offline when they im you. they should then email or throw you a notecard. if you 'lose' the ims and they dont email/notecard.... well, you can always say your offline ims got capped.

No. Unless you can hide your online status from the databases or w/e somehow (which is probably not allowed)

Having scripted one of these 'Others' Online Indicators' as I call it (For personal use in finding a predator), I can say that the way it's done is to ask the servers if you're online, essentially, and if they say "Well yeah, duh he's on, can't ya see him?" then it shows you as online.

It takes some annoying techniques to do it in my opinion (Like converting a character name to a key id) but it's useful enough that people have it alot.

I'd have to say the same as the others, make an alt, use busy, or just deal with it. Maybe add in your profile that you don't wanna be contacted (MIGHT help. Some people are just butts)
