I don't think so...

I've 2 products thats probally do it...

first: A tool to create scuplted rocks...you choose by web with format u wish..then the prim retrieve the height map from the web.

second: A YouTube TV - You search for some media...then the results appear in pages of 6 medias each page. Each media fill a face of 1 prim - It's a JPG from Youtube that's was retieved.

Neither of these are working as you think they are. How they likely work:

First: The sculptie texture has to be pre-uploaded to SL, and the website is just telling the object the key of that texture to use. It *may* be possible to set the sculpt texture to the media texture and then change it from the web, that would be an interesting experiment. But you would be using the media texture in that case.

Second: Youtube video is using the Media Texture.

There's simply no way to display a texture directly from the web, other than using the media texture. And that of course only works on a per-parcel basis.

The other two exceptions are map textures and profile pics. In both cases, the textures are already in the system and all you are retrieving is the uuids.

I'm told that one is doable, I think someone did a vid of it for animation.

Hi there, I believe that there is the HTTPTexture project in progress as we speak at linden labs and is being incorporated in the opensource viewer... cant wait till this functionality exists!

I've seen it working on the OsGrid. A prim that you type a URL to and it displays the page. They displayed it on a curved prim that was either part of a cylendar, or a plane sculptie. Would be simple do do if the Lindens would just impliment llSetPrimURL

I have a feeling the Lindens are reluctant to allow content into SL that they don't have direct control over. I can understand the concern, but it is hampering some significant progress IMHO.

You're not the only one. It will be an amazing tool for W-Hat, 4Chan, and SomethingAwful griefers to harvest people's IP addresses to use in denial of service attacks and identify alts.
