Every prim needs a creator, an agent. Once you create one prim with copy perms you can put it in another prim with a rez script and watch the replication! Rezzed prims can modify them selves in any way at all.

Watch the grey goo fence though!

You can't create a prim from scratch - you can only rez an object in inventory. So you have to set up the prims you want to create as items in the object's inventory in advance.

If you want to create arbiary prims, you need to use "nanoprims" - make a basic plywood cube, and put a script into it that listens on a hidden channel for data, and then uses that data for a call to llSetPrimitiveParams. Then, your main object can rez the nanoprim and then chat to it, on the hidden channel, telling it the settings it should have.
