You need to use llTakeControls (and llRequestPermission) to read keyboard input and llStartAnimation (and llRequestPermission) to make an animation happen.

Try (via google) finding a vehicle script - most of them should have examples of how to do both things.

Try the LSL-Wiki - they provide good examples for most of the commands...

The LSL wiki is something of a historical item of contention. Technically speaking, there is no (or very little) official documentation on the functions within LSL. Most of the information presented in these (and other) wiki's is the result of volunteers. At some point, Linden Lab hosted their own Wiki for LSL, and then an exploit in the wiki code, and some poor security planning, allowed a hacker to access the credit card recoords of quite a large segment of the SL userbase. The OFFICIAL LSL wiki was disbanded, and the various mirrors began to take up the slack.

A number of months later, LL unveiled the OFFICIAL Second life wiki... and attempted to establish a new LSL wiki there. Unfortunately, the copyright status of some entries was contested.. in large part probably due to the mirrors, now having their own fanbases, fighting among each other to estabblish who would become the "one true wiki"... of course, LL came in and squashed them all with a "new" wiki, but with all the infighting going on, none of the information was allowed o be posted on the new wiki from any of the old wiki's.

So, what you have is a problem. The older wiki's (rpgstats for example) have some of the most vibrant, and understandable explainations of how things work in LSL.. others may have cleaner layouts, and different comments, as people who post to one, may not post to another.

And of course, most of them are a but out of date. NEW LSL COMMANDS (like llSetLinkprimitiveParams... and the new PRIM_GLOW attribute) are posted to the official wiki.. but since the older wiki's can't risk losing thier archives of USEFUL data about older commands, they can't actively merge data from the official wiki into thier sites.

I keep all four hotlinked, in a folder in my bookmarks toolbar in firefox. I start with RPGstats... and 90% of my needs are covered there. Occassionally I'll pop over to the official wiki if a command is unclear on rpg. I don't use the other two much.. but it's good to have the links handy.
