I have recently made my first foray into vehicle scripting and have built, with the help of a few tips from my neighbour, the beneficent Rickard Roentgen, an anti-grav cloud on which I may be seen zooming through the heavens. It's inspired by the favoured transport of the eponymous hero of the classic 70s Japanese cheese-fest Monkey. When someone mounts the cloud, the script invokes the built-in "stand" animation. My problem is, after a bit of flying, my legs keep going all weird (i.e. folding up, as if I were meditating), when I think I should really be doing nothing but standing. Why is this, and how can I avoid it?

Yes. Don't use the stand animation. Get someone with Poser to create a custom pose.

Are there any freely-available, downloadable animations that might be suitable for standing around on a cloud? I don't know anyone with Poser; I don't want to fork out for it; visiting Astalavista.com is harrowing; and social engineering takes too long.

If you don't want to buy a custom pose, consider using a stable, built-in pose, like "sit".

would an old pre 1.4 uploaded default SL stand work?

From: Strife Onizuka would an old pre 1.4 uploaded default SL stand work? I've tried that, Strife. The avatar's feet try to be on the ground at all times, regardless of the avatar's orientation. It can lead to some comical poses when you put your avatar upside down just above the ground.

It can lead to some comical poses when you put your avatar upside down just above the ground. My cloud has a very strong vertical attractor and always stays THIS SIDE UP, so my avatar should never be upside-down. I'd appreciate a pre-1.4 stand animation if anyone has one.

Flugelhorn McHenry, You could try using the built in "surf" pose. That may help, otherwise, I would be willing to make you a high priority standing pose free of charge. IM me in world if you would like to discuss this more.

Thank you, McWheelie! "surf" works much better. It looks a little bit too energetic (as I remember, Monkey used to travel erect, with his hands on his hips, beaming menacingly at the stratosphere), but at least it doesn't lead to any long-haul leg problems (deep vein thrombosis, anyone?). If it's not too much work, I'd be grateful if you could create an alternative "stand" animation, but I'm very happy for now.

I don't mind making a pose for you at all. I just need some details on what you would like. If you have a link to a site with a reference picture, that would be great. Shouldn't take very long to make. I will be in world for a bit this evening, and on and off sporadically throughout the weekend.

I have just realised that it is difficult to find a good picture of Monkey on his cloud. Here are two poor ones: 12To be honest, I don't really have my heart set on looking like Monkey. I just want to be able to zoom around on my cloud, standing upright. Anything that looks like the default "stand" animation but is not bugged would be ideal. Also, I would guess that others in SL would appreciate a standard non-bugged "stand" animation if you could make it freely available.

Okay Fluglehorn, I will do up a pose similar to the standard stand animation. I should have it uploaded and ready for pick up by tomorrow afternoon.

EDIT: I am on from my girlfriends place. That's why it's listed under Vee Grace. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks, McWheelie! The new animation is great, and my legs stay just where they should be. Also, I'd been noticing some lag while flying with the old animation, but the lag seems to be gone with your new one (though that might just be a coincidence).
A very happy Monkey,
Flugelhorn
