Hello all!
I'm not a scripter and I was just wondering if you guys could help me with weapont scripts.
Every time I go on places where ppl build something I always see ppl tryin out their guns and I was just thinkin perhaps I could try and make one.
I jsut want to see how everything works, I've seen some guns with all kinds of features, attacks, deffence, traps and Id just love to just get into that and see how that works.
Could you channel me in the right direction please?
Maybe I could look somewhere online or in game for some help, maybe you could make time for me now and then to explain a thing or 2 for and to me?
Let me know please.
Thank you for your time all!

you should check in the library part of your inventory a gun called "popgun" you can tear it apart and see how it work its the most basic gun in sl and a lot of more complicated weapons are based on it, it wontain most of the skeleton to make a gun

Theres also a gun and bullet script in the wiki, in the examples section. A fairly good foundation for basic guns, though, don't expect anything like shieldbreaking or orbits or what-not to be revealed so openly :P People make a lot of money from those in game, not to mention are more on the extreme side of things, chaos would ensue if every new account in the game had access to an orbit (for free) for instance, griefing would go up 10 fold at least.

WTF IS GREIFING? I dont want to do it ... its just I hear the term so much I want a solid definition... from its context it seems to mean some dick w/ a malicious script object who tries to crash things.... is this correct? Please... be my urban SL dictionary and cure me of my ignorance.

Greifing doesn't have a single solid definition, except "someone acting in a fashion to spoil someone else's Second Life."

So, yes, someone with a script *designed* to crash sims, avies etc. is a griefer. (Sometimes scripts do it by accident, and responsible people don't do it again.)

But someone with a script designed to rezz loads of otherwise harmless prims on your land parcel (I got griefed this way by someone with a "wand" that rezzed loads and loads of hemispheres for example) is also a griefer.

Within the current usage someone who stalks you, someone who pesters you for cybering, someone who continuues to ignore the PG sim behaviour guidelines would also count as a griefer - there's an element of repitition in it too.

Weapons are also generally seen as griefing tools (outside of combat areas and RP areas where combat plays a major role, such as places in SL's Starwars community).

Ofcourse, theres different varieties of weapons, damage weapons are pretty much limited to the combat areas and otherwise just cause a little nudge and object rez. What gets annoying outside of these areas are weapons with push. Just immagine building in a sandbox for someone to come along and push with so much force that you end up so high your avatar's distorted (ie, an orbit). If thats not bad enough, once you know how to script it doesn't take much converting that concept into a prim you just drop, and it does the same to people within 96m constantly (aside from the owner), completely barring them from use of the area. These aren't just found in weapons either, similar things can be found in over-zealous home security. Just think, you're flying along and exploring and then bam! Killed and tp'd home or orbitted without warning.

Basically, griefing is causing other people grief on purpose (accidents do happen, though you should at least send an apology out if they do). For a newbie this typically involves running around with weapons in a sandbox.

ok thats pretty much what i figured... causing grief in one way or another. And yea I have been plunged into orbit by a home security script a few times actually lol... but alas these are elements of the world we live(play) in and I bear no ill will to anyone over them. The crashing sims servers does upset me tho.. no reason to crap in your own toybox.
