That would fall under the category of "exploit". Exploits aren't supposed to be discussed in the forums. You would need to bring your concerns to the attention of a Linden.

Nice reply - I hope your ego feels better.

Well, I was just wondering if someone *knew* on a kinda intellectual level. (It kinda relates to UUID management.)

Have a good weekend :)

I'd say that's a good reason to sell copy/no-transfer products (like most of SL) rather than transfer/no-copy (like some of SL).

Yes, this is possible. LL is rather loathe to do a rollback for this reason. If you started doing this and selling the items, they'd catch on pretty quickly. In fact, just posting about it here before trying it could get you in trouble.

On the other hand, I suppose if one did *not* sell or use those copies, except to give to an alt for safekeeping, it would be one way to get an inventory backup. (I know: nag, nag, nag! ;) )

His reply is quite appropriate and not centered around ego.

There are forum rules against discussing exploits here, for a good reason.

I know your inquiry was basically a rhetorical one, but it really shouldn't be part of a public forum. If you have that kind of concern, a Linden is the most appropriate person to be discussing it with, in private, because they WILL know, even moreso than anyone else here, and you won't incite 3,000 kiddies to start requesting sim rollbacks so they can game the system.

Escort, you have a pretty good answer on this, it might be cool to edit your original post now to do away with the how-to aspect of your question. Just a thought ...

Escort you are completely correct with your post.

BTW This is not the first time I have seen it, and it won't be the last.

It is up to individual creators what they do with their permissions, and this is just one of the issues that surrounds it. They choose whether it is copy or transfer, and just as in any choice there are tradeoffs, this is one of them. (Another very closely related one is when people get upset that someone has on sold their *Transfer*/No copy product, umm, like doh  ).

Totally off-topic (sorta) but be interested if anyone knows what would happen since I'd bet that you guys are the most likely to know...

Scenario:

1) I own a sim.

2) I have a house full of wonderful no-copy objects created by all the best designers and builders in SL.

3) I pick it all up into my inventory and then request a sim rollback.

4) I now have duplicate copies of all my no copy goodies one on the sim and one in my inventory...

--- or do I?

Security by obscurity never works, unfortunately LL and most other companies just haven't gotten the memo yet.

To my knowledge there is no solution to this. But you can detect it if you have a server.

My guess is that LL watches out for this type of thing using both manual and (probably) some sort of red flag system that watches for massive changes right before a rollback request, but even if they have such tools I doubt they'd talk about them.

Hmmm - maybe the moderator should delete this thread - i was expecting the answer "no" since I expected that no-copy items would retain UUIDs...

Thanks all.

On purpose actually, I'm a strong believer in not keeping exploits secret since A) the dishonest always figure them out anyway, and B) it hinders honest people pushing for a fix and/or the company implementing a fix.

I'm surprised too, Objects get new UUId's in very few cases, one of which and the most common of which is being rezzed from inventory or from another object so assuming it retains the UUID while in your inventory before it's rezzed then I don't know how it deals with the inventory conflict.

As per deleting this see my response above and also if Strife wanted to delete it he probably would have or at least locked it with a note about sending it to LR (Linden Review) to see about having a linden delete it.
