Is there any way in a script so if the object hears a word it says something but if it doesnt hear that word within a certain time period, it says someting else?

Yes, I believe you can set a timer, then listen. If you hear what you want, then say something and remove the timer. If the timer fires, then say the other thing. For more functionality, I'd also use global variables to keep track of what's been heard or said.
