I've been making little trinkets here and there, and really want to try out vehicles. I think I've bitten off more than I can chew though. Some of the airplane/helicopter scripts require you to be in mouselook. I can't handle that (crash every time..). Is there a way to script a
arrow keys: strafe left/right, forward/back pgdn/pgup: fly vertically.
as controls for an aircraft? Or could you point me to a script as a basis from which I can learn from?

Yes, that is quite possible. I don't have a script on-hand though, so I can't give you an example.
It might be good for you to figure out exactly why you crash on mouselook, because that's not normal. Perhaps you should post in the Technical Issues forum.

I think he means he crashes the vehicle.

From: Julian Fate I think he means he crashes the vehicle. Yeah, that's what I meant It's really hard at times to do mouselook on my crappy vid card, running at 3fps as I'm trying to level out with helicopters and aircraft using the mouse. A normal, avatar control would be great, since it's a lot easier to control, and doesn't require me to be in mouselook to do.

Thanks, it's great to be here. SL's already becoming addicting at this point.

Playing with some of these scripts, I can't seem to really grasp all the tools that I need to do this.
The script explicitly states not being able to rotate in the x-y coordinates, yet it'll sometimes do that while flying. I'm trying to find a way around this, but the closest thing I can get is the free motorcycle thing, and that keeps a vehicle on the ground.
Besides ditching this whole vehicle idea for something simplier, are there ways of using the mouse to pan/rotate around the avatar, that also rotates the vehicle with it?

If you want to control your camera, you can do such as Alt + mouse drag, Alt + Ctrl + mouse drag and Alt + Shift + Ctrl + mouse drag. But if you want to control your avatar or its riding objects by mouse, you cannnot help but be in the mouselook. Irreconcilable.

Man.. I did a little more looking... Cubey's 2-seat hovercar is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Too bad I can't see how Cubey did it...
