So we're in the final days. The forum is dead, long live the forum!

Let's pick a new haunt. It'll be best if most of us scripters go the same way.

Most likely, I'll be taking MLPV2 discussions to the winner, unless I go there and find it objectionable for some reason.m (I haven't tried any of these yet.) I know it's not the same thing, but I won't be haunting more than one site, in general.

Please let me know if I missed any good candidates.

You can pick more than one. Also, it's public: we can see who voted for what. If a bunch of regular contribors pick one site and a thousand names I don't recognize pick another, I'll go with the regulars.

just to give this a little bump and to give people an idea of what's out there:

slu http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/#development-discussion-support

sc: http://www.secondcitizen.net/Forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9

mvx: http://www.metaverseexchange.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=6

slapt: http://slapt.me/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=9

and i can never find anything in the blog so I have no idea where it would be - sorry.

my agenda is I want the mlp thread to go to a good home where everyone is happy.

Ah, update -- I've learned that LL does plan to plant a new forum of some kind.

So, I'll wait and see if it's usable before abandoning ship.

Thanks for the links, Couldbe.

Huh? Wha?

Is this just a new version of the jive stuff or that they'll be adding 'forums' to it before turning this place off or something that will be useful?

Who knows? Maybe not even the Lindens. I guess we'll have to wait and see, fingers crossed.

As usual, pessimists won't be dissapointed. ;-)

My vote (other than for pie, of course) is to give the flogorum a chance, at least; it's where people will naturally tend to look in the first instance, I think, and since Void's said she's prepared to give it a go (unless she's changed her mind), that's good enough for me.

If the flogorum doesn't work out -- as I fear it won't -- then I vote SLU, since that seems to have a reasonably well-established (though still rather rudimentary) scripting section. But I don't have any strong feelings about where we go.

Thanks for the links, Couldbe.

my concern is that their "plan" might resemble the same plans that they've had for all the jira's on SLA... I am doing my best to see that's not the case.. but it's rough going.

(I will miss pie)

In the future, when I need answers, I will google for them.
I have no plans about reading any forum regularly.
If I stumble on some nice place, where I feel at home and maybe meet you good people, I will reserve a tab in my browser for it:D

I would like to see all 'content creation' subforum go to the same new forum. Whitch one is not important as long as it is add-free and has good speed.
In general its a mysterie to me why Linden wants to kill a living forum :/
I hope a link to the new forum will be up soon so no one if left in the dark

Lord knows I am not a scripter, but I have to agree with you Abraxes would be nice for all content related subjects to be on one forum. But we all know, once we get use to doing things a certain way, LL has to shake up the bag creating hassles for everyone.

There used to be a forum called SL Developers Forum at http://sldevelopers.com/ but I just checked and domain name has expired in January. I remember that one from years ago. It's a fairly good name in the event someone wanted to get it and use it. Seems like it might have been Hiro Pendragon's site.

It's forbidden by LL policy to use one common term after SL for a domain name. That's why I had to rename SLdetails to SLtwisteddetails (their loss hehe).

Yeah, and they shot themselves in the foot when they made SLExchange change their name, and then went and bought them with a newer, clunkier name. Oh, the irony!

One place is best. Unless the new offering here is good, it's not likely to happen. Regardless, I'll do what I can in that direction.

I very much agree that it would be best for all the content fora to end up in one place. I further think it would be of most benefit to SL's larger community if that place were where noobs will look for it - on LL's website.

If, however, that is not viable, then whatever website is settled on should make it very clear to Google that a lot of SL content creators answer questions there. I would bet that Cris would be more than amenable to that. SLU has had a large number of content creators, but they've never much brought technical issues to that venue for discussion/education. Personally, I find SCII more congenial. If there were an obvious winner here, I'd be advocating it ....

Fwiw, it seems to me that LL is taking a rigorous outsourcing approach, to the extent of having NO inhouse expertise on the Jive software. I think they may be simply bundling up the Jira bugs and handing them off to Jive for action. That is, they intend to confine their efforts to generating content for the blogs.

Of course, since LL is a 350-person company, Jive is also quite small, and Jive counts Fortune 500 companies among their customer base, LL's reports may get a little lost in the shuffle. I haven't been bothering to report issues to Jira, because:

1. Any "web developer" (such as Yoz) should be able to provide Jive with a simple spec for an internet forum. Creating a functional spec by filing 100 Jira issues is idiotic.

2. I suspect most of the issues I would file could be done using Jive's configuration tools. Thus, it is unlikely that Jive will do anything about them; so since LL is not interested in learning how to use Jive's software, they will probably go unaddressed, as the SLA and Commerce site issues have.

*sighs*

It's the community manager job to handle this kind of problems.

They do not have (and never have had) a Community Manager.

They do not know what the job description is, or what one would do.

They have no clue.

a nice neutral site where people are not banned for no reason would be nice, therefore i support Second Citizen.

the only thing offputting about SCII is that you have to go through that sign up ritual with the posting to that thread. That may put some people off.
