changing the direction of texture motion

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to change the direction of texture motion so in a hollowed prim (hole in the middle), the texture moves from the hole, outwards - as opposed to the left-to-right or right-to-left of anim smooth.

I'm hoping this is a dumb question with an obvious answer...

Kind Regards,

Not actually a dumb question, and there's not necessarily an obvious/easy answer. First of all, if possible, use the REVERSE flag in cases like this... but it doesn't seem like this'll help your current situation. I've had luck with setting the rotation value of a texture when I'm doing a SMOOTH animation... it seems not to be reset by the texture animation unless I'm doing a ROTATE texture animation.

Also, if the prim in question is a cylinder, you're likely to have much more luck with a tube. Tubes can be made to look like certain shapes of cylinder, but their face corresponding to the cylinder's hollow is much more logically laid out and much more amenable to texture animation.

Thanks for responding Lex, the tube is exactly the prim I'm working with. I've only been able to get the texture to rotate in a circular motion sideways around the tube, not from the center out. Will try your suggestions.

Hello, Cristos

I have little to add to Lex's suggestions - experimenting with seemingly ridiculous texture repeats & rotations can work wonders!

However, if you're aiming for a specific effect and can't wrangle it that way, you may want to try FlipperPA Peregrine's marvellous animated-gif translator

You still have to make the animated gif! But the translator will tidy up the file for you :)

Let us know what solution works for you, please ...

nm i was wrong

i just set the texture rotation to 90 and it was going bottom to top, so -90 would be top to bottom just use the select texture option in the edit menu and spin it the way you want

rotations will stick but offsets / repeates wont, oddly enugh they will with ROTATE

Cherry, Osgeld - thanks to both for your input.

Osgeld, your suggestion worked like a charm. Guess I ignored the basics, lol.

Best to all,

Cristos

ps: to get, for example, a water texture to flow outwards from the center of a ring prim, wound up setting the rotation to 0.
