Is this a bug (will save the Lindens time if it isnt!).

Scenario:

Island, with low usage and not many scripts and prims on it - so not overworked...

A physics enabled vehicle running around pre-given points suddenly clones itself and shoots off into the distance....

If you stand in the centre of the island you can see monorail cars flying off (in a perfectly stable and level trajectory) until they disapear off the sim edge - but they dont get returned or cause errors - which leads me to believe that they may be some kind of glitch in the system...

I cant catch them - and as they fly past I can hear the sound fx that is installed in them, I've had this verified by a third party who is as astonished as I am.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have to ask...are you sure they really are shooting off?

An object cannot 'clone' itself without a script telling it to rez a copy of itself that is already stored in the object's inventory.

Glitches in the physics engine will cause what I normally refer to as, and I believe everyone does as well, as ghosting. The un-manned vehicle will appear to shoot off at a crazy angle and high velocity, but it really doesn't, and should reappear after a second or two, still trucking along it's pre-programmed flightpath.

Umm... well I'd agree with your solution apart from the fact that the vehicles don't disapear and reappear, they simply seem to clone and shoot off leaving the original where it was.

However if this is a known about occurence I'll not stress about it :)

Well, from what you described, you're dealing with several train cars following the same path, and you did say you were viewing this from a distance.

I used to have a series of shuttles flying routes, and I would see them appear to 'shoot off' the sim, and I would even hear them fly past if I was near where the ghost went by.

Other than the insistance that you can see the vehicle still sitting there even while the ghost flies away, you're describing the exact same experience.

I watched mine do it over a series of months before I took them down. Not due to the ghosting, but several other issues that were only slightly related to them.

I would suggest going ahead and creating a JIRA about it anyway or seeing if there is already one there to add to it. Some bugs, including this one are hard to replicate. If your train is in world all of the time then file the JIRA with the location and an exact set of circumstances that can be followed to replicate it.
