Since I've been unable to find info on this, I decided to go ahead and ask. I was digging through the forums and found this video of someone making a tail in SL, and I assume that the texture has to be a particle effect of some sort. It's very unique and I haven't seen it done before, nor am I aware if that effect would be impractical or lag-inducing... But it's pretty. So if anyone could possibly explain the scripting behind that, theorize or offer an example, or point me in the right direction, I would be extremely grateful. Edit: Ew. That thing is a bunch of prims? But it looks so detailed and smoothly flawless. Bah. And here I was hoping there was a low-prim way to replicate that.

That's a work with flexy prims. Flexy cones at various sizes and positions and with textures set at different places. Basically no real scripting involved other than tail movement.

Ew. So you're saying each tiny "cone" of fur is an individual prim? That must be an arseload of prims.

It's just one prim with the flexible flag turned on.

Looks a bit iffy when flex detail goes down or there are a large number on screen (e.g someone's hair). I have a flexi-tail made using four parts, and it looks great, but when it goes slow you can see the parts moving at slightly different speeds

From: Yumi Murakami Really? How are they making all the prims move in sync? Flexi prims all flex by identical math. If your system is keeping up and not haivng to shave off frames deciding on the shape of flexible prims and the prims have the same flexi properties and length along the flex line, they move in perfect unison. I've seen those fuzz tails go out of synch... looks painful >.<

particle script

ok it can be done with a script on a flexi prim however the particles move with the center of the prim and it doesnt trace well but ... if u have the proper texture with a transparent background it can be done with one flexi prim its not perfect but its fairly pretty and it reses quicker
