Nonphysical object following a physical object

I have a 60-prim object that I want to drop from the sky at a pretty fast speed. Of course I could do this easily with physics, but I really don't want to lower the prim count any more than it already is. So, I figured that I could create a 1-prim physical object, and have the non-physical object follow it. However, this is prooving rather difficult, given that llSetPos() cannot be made to go fast AND smooth at the same time. Is there any other way to do this?

Depending on the size of the object (it's mass) you could try successive movetotarget calls, but you need to keep an eye on energy.
