Cory said something a while back about what sounded like a shared memory system that could be used for secure persistent storage AND inter-object communications. It would be based in a sim (probably associated with a particular object), and other objects could read and write data there. Objects in the same sim would have very fast access, while objects in other sims would take longer to read and write. Add notifications to tell objects when data has changed, and you have a workable communication system. Much better than writing notecards or sending email.
