Poofer Script and information

Hi can anyone give me some pointers as to where to find out more about creating a basic poofer script that will poof on touch?.

I'm not a scripter and I'm aware this is probably a very basic thing for those of you who are masters of the code. My problem is that I have such a script but I don't know how I can increase the length of time the poof is released for. Presently it is gone almost as soon as it is released
