I see thes Butterflies that randomly (or so it seems) move around a persons land, and swands that move in lakes (all seems random).

How can i animate the flapping wing movement, and cause the butterfly to move randomly around my land?

Also is there a way to make an object randomly move or jump around my land?

Thanks Much,
Gene

Gene,

There are a efw people working on randomly roaming critters. Nada Epoch and Salarn Wu were working on schools of fish. (though, this was something I found in an old thread...so they have have moved on from this a while back..)

Maybe they still have a script you can peek at?

Try the search utility to see if you can find something. It's located in the drop down menu at the bottom of this page... get it to drop down, then scroll up... (kinda hidden, I think it should be right out in the open!)

The swan was made by Gaudeon Wu; I think you can get it from him for free.

Garth Fairlight makes a butterfly, and a bird. Carnildo Greenacre also makes a bird.

Not quite for free :) they are 150 but you get unlimited copies. I've seen a few other swans out there as well.

To answer your question Gene you might want to try a couple sets of wings at various angles and only one set visible at a time. A timer and link messages and viola, instant flapping.

Look at the funcion llMoveToTarget for object movement. Some math and a little bit of creativity will get you there in no time.

I also make butterflies. Mine flap their wings by changing the transparency of two prims with "wing" textures.

At the lowest level, the movement of my birds and butterflies is made up of a few simple actions: a sharp turn to either the left or the right, a wide turn to either the left or the right, climbing or descending at a given speed, and going in a straight line. The higher-level AI puts those actions together to produce more complex behavior, like avoiding obstacles and moving around a sim.

I have physical butterflies that flap their wings and flit about randomly.
My script is not quite complete, so I won't post it until I add a few owner controls etc.

However I did use the functions llLookAt, llMovetoTarget, llSetLocalRot

which you can look up on the Wiki.
