What would the point of listening to an IM be? Spying?

Goshua Lament if scripts could send/ receive instant message it would make private conversations with scripts possible. I think people would use it, instead of general chat, for many productive scripts. It would allow for more complex interactive scripts, while also reduce spam, and an easy way to keep things simple. Gambling, voting, polling, visitor logs, games, settings many of these things could benefit from an instant message windows for scripts.

If LL's email servers would speed the bloody up again, email is always an option.

you can get pretty damn private with chat in a script. chat and listen on a channel other than 0 (zero). you can pick from thousands of channels. not much chance someone will guess your channel and listen in on your super secret chocolate fudgey plans. or use link messages if it's all in the same object.

There is also some "weak" encryption built into scripting that you can use to further secure your communications...

Actually, that's an underestimation of the depth of the possibilities, the range is -2147483648 to 2147483647. When I first saw what the range was someone told me the range of channels was: 2,147,483,648 And I was thinking BFD 4 channels (thinking the channel numbers were separated with commas).. so the answer is just a little under 4.3 BILLION possibilities counting the negative numbers (unless you can only use the positive numbers) and in that case, it's still close to 2.15 BILLION... personally have never tried the negative channels or tested to see that the negation makes a difference. Maybe I will try that... (but remember that negative zero is still zero in most languages) ![]() _____________________

Well in theory it is a big number. But I would be willing to bet that most scripts talk in the rage 0-1000. People are much more likely to pick a number they're farmilure with. Like the year they were born, their street address, the last four digits of their phone number. Their atm pin. Their favorite tv channel. I guess a 'pro' would randomize it, and encrypt it.
But most humans do not talk in 64 bit encryption, nor are they great a remembering long random numbers. privacy is one concern, but there are many other uses to for terminal window. |

I usually just randomly pick a 6 or 7 digit number for the channel. Much less chance of anyone else using it if you go above 1000...
