I have been working a bit with scripts (mainly weapons) and I noticed that guns have quite the advantage in PVP over Melee weapons. One shot (unless you got defenses) and your dead. That makes people who want to use swords at quite the disadvantage. I remember in the star wars movies the Jedis could use their Lightsabers to deflect bolts fired at them. Is there a way to script this kinda thing into Lightsabers\Swords? Make it so whenever something is fired at the player, the player will play an animation and deflect it away? Maybe even make it so it only does it 50% of the time. At least give people with swords a more level playing field. Thoughts anyone?

Add a rather large invisible prim to the lightsaber that covers the AV, and add a shield script to the saber that rezzes a solid invisible temp object around the wearer when colliding with an active object, and triggers a "block" animation

You can do this with a soft push. Nightspy Rebus started me on this but unfortunately like all other soft push shield it is not very reliable. Anything shooting relatively fast will make it through. I didn't want it as an actual shield as I already made one for myself. I just wanted the effect but it iseasier to reliably fake the effect than it is to actually do it.
The onyl way to give your sword the advantage over guns in damage areas is to make the sword phantom you so damage bullets go through you. That is a bit cheese though.

You can have it do the push then rez a blocking prim, too. Use the detected object's mass and velocity multiplied by -1 as the impulse in the push to make it a bit more reliable.
