Did anyone ever get around to making an out-of-game syntax editor?

this is something we talked about a little while ago, but I don't know if it ever got created.

a syntax checker program that ran under windows without being in game that included all the syntax highlighting and function requirements so tht we could write scripts (even if we couldn't actually run them and make them do things outside the game)

Yes. SciTE-ez does this. It won't tell you if you have an error in your code, but does everything else you can possibly want. Still no out of game compiler. Well, actually there might be. Ask Strife, he seems to know just about everything about the inner workings of LSL. But even if he did have one, I doubt he'd be allowed to share it unfortunatly. Do a serch for the thread in the forums to get an updated lsl api file for 1.8.
Mono will allow for an out of game compiler hopefully so we can debug scripts without having to keep copying back and forth hopefully. Gotta make do in the meantime though. Unless LL goes off and decides something crazy like giving us an out of game compiler.

There are also other options as well.

Check out what the wiki has for options. I was using Ultra-Edit with the wordfile for LSL until I discovered SciTE-ex which I think is the best implementation I've found.
Also has support for esl if you're interested in doing anything like that. (Would give you a wiki link on it, but it seems there's no wiki page for it. Perhaps later I'll make a basic page on it if I sit down to figure out wiki syntax. In the thread for SciTE there's a link to the thread somewhere in there about esl. I think Strife posted it... It's basically running code through a C++ pre-processor to create LSL code. More than that I'm not sure as I haven't done anything like that yet.)

I use on occassion a free program called ConText that people have created syntax editors & checkers for. I was hoping someone would create one for SL so I dont have to be online all the time to learn scripting.

Would be nice to be offline, typing away during lunch break, then get home & upload it.

Whoa, Celerity Epoch! Long time no see!

I have to agree with Folco and recommend SciTE-Ez. It's what I use (go, Ezhar!) and I couldn't be happier with it. Sadly, there's no Mac version, but you can at least use it on Linux if that's your cup of tea these days.

Ola Catherine, how's it going?

Yeah, i haven't been by for a while due to outside concerns (I got married! And Promoted! and bought/renovated a house!) and so first life was too crazy to allow second life.

But from time to time I do drop in just to see how things have changed =)
