I would like to enclose a skybok and cloak it in a way that it cannot be seen from the outside but can have normal surfaces inside
I have looked at various invisible prims and scripts, but all fail to hide anything but avatars. Is there such a capablility in SL?

To the best of my knowledge, said "avatar-hiding" invisibility scripts will also hide textured prims with a nonzero alpha constant. Try:
- Setting the prims inside to 1% alpha - Texturing them with a .TGA image with a blank alpha map

I have tried that approach. the prim becomes completely transparent and reveals the contents

Eh? I might need to check again sometime, but as far as I know you can view the prims from inside a-okay, but not through the inviso prims.
You could also vary the texturing by face, so you see the interior walls, but no one else can.

Zephyr, you're setting the prims you want hidden to 1% alpha, not the invisiprims that surround them, correct? Because if you make the invisiprims alpha, they will lose their cloaking ability.

Beatfox...
That suggestin did work, however I guess I have to do one more step and that is build another shell that is all set to 1% transparent. that is the solid shell that will really hide everything. this will work...thanks

Not 100% sure, but I don't think it's enough to build a shell that's 1% transparent. I think every object inside it will need to be 1% transparent or have a texture with a dummy alpha channel of zero transparency. Let us know your results.
