I was wondering if it would be possible to script this or not.

The idea:

You know the little blue window boxes that pop up? Well, is there a way I could do that, perhaps by whispering in a private channel and it displaying what I say? I know it would probally work only on my land, but thats all I need it for. Does anyone know if this is possible? Im not asking you to script it for me, don't take it as that. Im just curious if this is even possible.

Why yes it is possible to do something like it.

Like Gearsawe said, it is possible. And you aren't limited to doing it on your land. Read the site he linked to and check on the wiki for how to use llListen and the listen event. If you have trouble wading through it feel free to come back and ask for clarification.

(Sorry for doublepost)

It seems that this only shows for the user that clicked the object. I was wanting to message all the users on my land! Would there be a way to set it up to do that?

I believe you could run a scan to find peoples keys within X amount of meters and then send it to all of them automatically. Not that I'd know how.

I wanted something similar a little while back to play with and see if I could hack together a even voting script out of it. Never got round to it.

llDialog also delays the script by one second per call,

so, if you had, say 30 people on your land, it would be 30 seconds between the first and last person getting the message.

If it is absolutely time-critical information you could add extra scripts to open llDialog menus. This could be on a temp basis to reduce lag (remember that scripts although idle consume some sim script run-time). Depending on the number of people you are expecting on your land you could code to accomodate, i.e. for up to 10 perhaps have 2 scripts and take 5secs from first to last. For more than 16 avatars you'll need to work some cleverness with the sensors (as they can only detect the closest 16 within the sensing angle) and this could be by rotating the sensor prim to do sweeps of the region or two sensors, one at either end of your land.

It gets steadily more complicated the more avatars present, the larger the land (sensor range limitations) and the faster you wish to inform all the avatars.

also dont forget the limitations of the sensor. which i think it can only detect a max of 16 things per call.
