If they issued each and everyone of us a guide with all the rules of this scripting language that anyone could absorb in 30 minutes and script flawlessly thereafter, well then.............................. It would be totally boring and wouldn't be worth doing at all.
Hang in there Ryder.

Deep down everyone hates LSL but it's what the Linden gods even us to work with so we deal. Once you have reach a complete state of insanity you will feel better about LSL.

Personally I think it is karma at work and in a past life I was rich & influential and sorely mistreated some poor scribe somewhere.

WRT Jesse's comment, it's my understanding that in the ranking of reincarnations, LSL scripter comes below aphid and above slime mold.

documentation? we don't need no stinking documentation we're scriptors... Godlike in Our CaPacitY foR UNREAsONeD BeHavioRS... AND I HAVE THE ULTIMATE POWER, POWER YOU HEAR ME!? POWERS BEYOND COMPREHENSION !!!!!!!!1111oneoneEleventyONesssszzz..... Heard in the back ground: "and this is why we don't script, right kids? repeat after me "just say no to scripting".... good job." seriously though, yes it's a pain, and the learning curve is something like a flashlight beam in house of mirrors after an opera singer has had range extending practice in it. but if you get even a fraction of it down you can impress friends and newbs alike with your knowledge and script-fu(not script-foo, I think CrystalShard TM'd that).. and watch as they all scatter in awe (or maybe that's back away slowly, haven't figured it out yet). then you too can be honored with a constant bombardment with requests to fix scripts that read notecard lines from a nonexsitant notecard inside a do loop while, running inside a timer with a .01 repeat (And yes, that really happened).... because the creator wanted to know why the listen event wasn't firing on time.... for free of course =) if only I'd have been this child

It's not that bad. you just need to put up with retarded junk like movement keys being the only ones to listen two, and other scripters that don't bother with efficency.
but hey it's a great place to show off a bit, a bit better than projects sitting on your desk top for a few years.
even a junk script that you attach and use llSetBuoyancy(.9999999); on can draw a few eyes.

I've noticed that it's a love-hate relationship for most people People would love to learn to script... ...but they hate having to learn it. *edit - Oh just a word in defense of LSL - In three years since LSL2 I've not seen a better proposal for the domain.

LsL is a fairly easy language, but is flawed. It needs a major overhaul as far as context goes, because nothing is constant, and there are some logic flaws in script flow. I'd love to see LSL adopt a similar code to AW Code (which is very simplistic), and drop some of the unneeded junk. For example in AW code, to rotate something a certain amount of degrees, all you need to do is create rotate 0,0,45 time = 1 ((yes that is the entire code needed to make it work)) in LsL you need to be a math major in collage to make a prim rotate in a certain amount of degrees than stop.

OK, a scripting wiki was a great idea, but now that it's spawned 1 or 2 or 3 siblings content is scattered all over the landscape. It's LL's responsibility to doc LSL, it's not that huge a language, and all they need to do at this point is hire someone to pull it together, not an immense job. Is it that they're lazy or cheap or what? OK, LL, I volunteer to do it for 40$/hour, a fraction of my usual contracting wage. Haha, i kill me! Like anyone at LL's reading this! /rant off

From: Chaz Longstaff Hang in there Ryder. It gets worse. That's when you really start to like it :} Well, I do like it... but only artificially... it takes SO MANY HOURS to get something conceptually simple to work, that when you finally do it, you feel the euphoria of being lost in the desert a week, and finding an old hub cap to drink rusty water from. In the end, it's still rusty water. The comment about lsl being written in a couple weeks. Yes, I heard the primary author of lsl brag about this... and perhaps he should. An amazing accomplishment for a 2 wk effort. But imagine if he had spent double that time... *gasp* 4 whole weeks, doing lsl. Can you imagine the freaking MAN-YEARS that would have been saved by now? What if he had taken an extra week to... *gasp* document the damned thing... saving MAN DECADES of effort by us all, I have little doubt. For the cost of three weeks of a man's life, we could have saved a century of effort in SL. And when you stop to think that the quality of the experience in SL is DIRECTLY related to the content, and the content depends totally on the tools.... (SL *is* content, otherwise it is just a chat room). Well, SL should have the best editing tools, and the best scripting language to be found....and documented.... period.

Yeah at least they could add the missing functions to the LSL Scripting Guide and describe the string in the types section.

heh too bad genius at coding doesn't equate to genius at other things (like documentation, testing, bug hunting, etc) sometimes it's gotta be broken in order to find out it's broken, and by then people already created things using the broken parts and workarounds, and the correct way would kill tons of content...
