Just thought I should tell everyone about what's new on the wiki ( http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Portal ).

Early Wednesday morning LL upgraded the wiki engine from 1.11 to 1.13.2, this presented some challenges as the update can cause some issues with some of our more complex templates. Despite the risks the update went off without any major problems thou there were some templates that needed beating into shape.

Content - Style & Template Changes:
* Bug notification - Some features are buggy, bugs are listed at the bottom of the articles, this puts a Red Exclamation point at the top of the page (and tells you how many unresolved bugs there are). For an example see link #1
* Template:Issue Updates - now shares icons with Jira.
* Needs Translation Sub Categories: LSL content anexed - All LSL articles in need of translation can be found in link #2
* Also:Tests section was moved into Deep Notes (like anyone would notice)

Caveat:
* The update did not fix the cause of category corruption. ~_~

Links:
#1: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlGetStartParameter
#2: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:Needs_Translation/LSL

Other recent changes:
* Footnotes
* Right Side Table of Contents
* Deep Notes (absorbed several smaller sections and added several more sections).
* llDetectedTouch functions - https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Touch_Position
* LSLWiki link

Upcoming Changes
* http_server documentation
* llSHA1String - https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/llSHA1String

Got ideas for how to improve the style & layout of the documentation? Post them here:
https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Template_talk:LSL_Function
* New sections
* New reconfigurations
* New GUI Sugar

The wiki content and usability has been improving steadily, Strife, thank you.

I'm trying to wean myself off of lslwiki. Here's the thing that most bothers me, and if someone knows a way around it I'd love to hear it:

searches on the portal invariably return tons of irrelevant stuff from other parts of the wiki, including the unbelievably content-free test plans. Is there any way to search ONLY the lsl portal?

Sadly no, but if you know roughly what your looking for you can use the Category system. There are about a hundred LSL Categories that are all interlinked.
https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:LSL

Try adding the word "caveat" to your search, I'm pretty sure all template based articles had that included when they were created. I'll think about adding a hidden tag or something to all LSL content to aid in searching.

I sometimes use google search instead, with "site:https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki" added to the search...

hmmm I'll make a GM script to add a google search box to go along with the wiki search box.

With all honesty I do still use LSLWiki, mostly for checking that what I remember is what I remember.

Here is part of the Bug thing I mentioned earlier...

i changed some stuff on the lsl portal page

i removed the 3rd party wiki miror, since the site was down and it was just a replublish of my 7-7 mirror anyway (which all my mirrors are cool to republish in a non profit way, just drop some credits somewhere plainly visable, thanks)

i added my current SL wiki snapshot

and i changed the wording to the rpgstats wiki page, because in all fairness the core material was replicated by me,but botched during +- 32 hours of work that first time i mirrored the lslwiki

it kills me that everyone says goto rpgstats when I WAS THE ONE who provided 90% of the current data to that site, and im never mentioned

so theres some minor "whoo wha screw you. mr cant add 1 line of text bull shi+" stuff going on :)

love you documenters keep it up !!!

I know exactly what you mean, it's really unfair. For the work I do I get a lot of credit but there is a lot of work that has been put into accumulating and discovering the knowledge presented that I did not do myself. With this medium it's often only the editors that get credit but in this case the credit really belongs to the community. The community has provided much of the information used through indirect authorship; through conversations, forum threads and jira issues.

aye, props to anyone who has ever contributed to any of the wiki's, i try to preserve credit when i can on the original authors, but when theres tens of thousands of pages not all can be seen, so i try to link back to the original sites so people can get their gold star

so far my methods have not been perfect, but in each and every mirror i strive to accomplish 2 things

filesize
and
props

ive gone from the 06 mirror as a pissing contest, that would not work right except when locally viewed on a windows machine to the current mirror thats what, 70% accurate?

that has required a TON of software writing / editing and countless hours, but not NEARLY as much as remaking the LSL documentation

you all deserve ALL the credit, i could only ask for is a name mention in a footnote for mirroring all your brilliant content (all 12,000 + pages of it i present mirrored on other sites)

and you, the contributors should start signing your pages :)

Actually we frown upon that... that's what the page history and the change log are for (except for code snippets and the such, signing is acceptable there).

I see page signing as symptom of an inflated ego. There is a tendency in the big Ego crowd to be stubborn and single minded; and that mix just isn't conducive to working with other people. Don't get me wrong, being stubborn can be an asset but being blinded by ego isn't.

We get people who swoop down with big plans and big egos; it always results in toes getting stepped on. They don't bounce idea off the existing editors, they just dive in and you end up with a mess; then they get defensive when you try to clean things up.

One example of this comes from the history of the NewbieNotes section, it was originally named after it's creator (XXXNotes, where XXX was the guy's first name). It's a pretty good idea, my first objection was that he demanded soul editorial rights (my other objections were that he named it after himself and the content he was providing was defective in style & content). Drama ensued. When the dust settled the NewbieNotes torch was laying on the ground and he was gone... of the roughly 825 LSL articles, only 2 have NewbieNotes sections (If anyone wants to work on that project, I will gladly fill them in on the details).

-----

In case anyone is wondering why I do it, it's because I'm addicted to problem solving. I get something of a rush from figuring out how to balance the communities requirements and organize the information. The altruism brings me satisfaction. The only thing my Ego does is make me tired and give me an unjustified feeling of entitlement.
