Haven't completely read through it myself but it looks like a pretty good article:

Enjoy!

I think anyone who is a regular reader of DDJ will be highly insulted by the kindergarten level of the text.

Couple that with the fact that the wikki URL given is defunct and its not going to leave a very good impression.

I wonder how much advertising LL bought in their sister publications to get it published? It sounds like it came right out of the book.

I agree; definitely not your normal DDJ fare. :-/

According to the article:
The authors also wrote Second Life: The Official Guide, on which this article is based. Courtesy John Wiley & Sons, 2007.
Which I read as "mostly cribbed from the book". From page 2 "Deeper into LSL":
These code samples illustrate some other basics of LSL syntax. First, the "//" denotes a comment. A comment allows you add text to your script to remind you of why you wrote the code a particular way, to lay groundwork for later coding (such as "insert code to open the door here";), or to make it easier for someone else to follow your work. Note that only the text to the right of the "//" is part of the comment, allowing comments to be added to a line that contains code.
DDJ has a lot less pages than it did years ago. Sigh.
