I have an object (object child) in the inventory of another object (parent) I would like to have a way of having the parent object either create or change a notecard to be found in the child object when it is purchased from the parrent. The purpose of this would be to set values on the child object based on the type of features purchased.

You might consider llSet/GetObjectDesc. That will still be human-readable, but if you need a persistant storage script, it might be a way of doing it.
