I've tried to teach a few people how to write scripts, but never had any success. For students that have never written programs before in their entire lives, i just can't explain the concepts well enough, and for students who have coding experience, i just point them to the wiki and they're off to town! This really bums me out, too. I've taught introductory college-level computer science classes before, and turned students who've never seen code before into C programmers that can at least handle their own. I've never been able to do that with LSL... *sigh*
My introduction to SecondLife was when my (now) boyfriend said, "You're a computer scientist, Lin, can you make this script work?" and he pointed me to the wiki as a reference guide. To this day, the wiki is still a huge help -- if you have written code before, it really is a good place to learn the quirks of LSL scripting. The Ivory Tower has all kinds of information about building, but most of it is beyond my comprehension... ![]() |

For students that have never written programs before in their entire lives, i just can't explain the concepts well enough, and for students who have coding experience, i just point them to the wiki and they're off to town! This is so true. I'd love to make some money by teaching people to program (like the original poster). But my advice would be "go read and do all the tutorials, and ask the wiki when you have questions, and come to me if you can't figure it out". In other words, it's 90% self-driven. I'm happy to answer the other 10% if I can, though. Adman |
